Work Stuff
Busy, busy, busy. Work is intense.
This is the point in the project where we have flight hardware. Our designs are integrated with other components of the mission, tested and readied for launch. No going back. Any glitches, any unexpected behavior is a big deal. There should be no surprises. High-level managers are watching. Everyone is tired and stressed.
This is the point when your stomach flips with every ring of the phone, and you sweat thinking about cases you could have left untested.
These are the thrilling days of an engineer.
A couple of weekends ago, I had to work, blowing our plans to go camping. Mike happily stepped up and swooped Sarah away for the day. Where they went, I'm not sure. I do know that their outing produced a happy kid, and my new favorite photo of Sarah.

When is launch?
Rachael
Rachael - Here's the crazy part. It isn't until Sept. 2009, but our designs have to be completed now to allow a year for testing and integration, plus eventual shipping to the Cape. Things move much more slowly in our world than in yours.
Dare I ask about your employment status? Or is that not for the blogging world?
Rachael
Rachael - I should be busy until the end of the year.
