It's here. Can you feel it? The Olympic spirit, silly.

Clear your TiVos! Break out the Kleenex boxes! And let the games begin!

Oh man, and hand me a Kleenex. That spirit gets me in the heart. Every. Single. Time.

I have been recording the Olympics, and staying up late to watch them. I have to skip most of it. I mostly watch some gymnastics, and Michael Phelps swimming. Last night I watched the relay. It was amazing, but I was a little worried about how far down a certain somebody's swimsuit was when he was leaping around. It must have been a foot below his belly button, and I really didn't want to participate in too much sharing.

I am also curious how old the Chinese are. One in particular, the one that weighs about 48lbs, surely can't be 16.

And, finally - do the NBC announcers seem unduly negative at times? Somebody will come up, and they will outright say that he probably won't do well. Or are they just being candid, not too sugar-coaty?

i have to say that james and i watched the opening ceremony and he was ENTHRALLED. he also saw a video of michael phelps swimming underwater. a few days later we went to the water park and he swam like that all the way around the lazy river. every once in awhile, he would pop his head up out of the water and say "i am michael feps!" as a former competitive swimmer, a little tear came to my eye. but i pretended it was the chlorine! oh if only the chinese would certify him as 16, i am sure he could set a world record in lazy river underwater dolphin stroke.

Rachael -

I'm doing the same - recording the games and then skipping stuff like synchronized diving, the segments on pandas, and the qualifying events. Somehow, I'm still staying up too late.

That Phelps torso is loooong. I also thought there might be a wardrobe malfunction.

The NY Times ran an interesting article about the age of the Chinese gymnasts. It's here:

Chinese Gymnasts

NBC announcers drive me bonkers. I feel like they're incredibly biased. I'd like to hear more about the non-Americans.

Carrie -

I forgot that you used to swim. Get us a video of the lazy river underwater dolphin stroke, asap! I'm sure it's gold medal worthy.

Sarah watches bits of the games, but mostly, she feels like it's just cutting into her Star Wars time. Wish there was a light saber event. That might peak her interest.
