Birth Day

Is it possible to explode from happiness? If so, Sarah was straddling the eruption point this morning.

You see, today is her dad's birthday. She loves birthdays, and she loves her dad. So, this morning was a double-whammy of happiness.

In preparation of the big day, I took her out to select a gift for him yesterday. Now, we live within walking distance of world class shopping, but she was not interested in those ritzy stores. Nope. She wanted to go to Safeway, a grocery store, for the gifts. This was her gig, and I wasn't going to argue with her. So to Safeway we went.

She was spinning with delight. Still, she had a complete agenda in mind. First, we were to select a card for him. I tried to steer her to the more masculine selection, but she immediately went to the pinkest, sparkliest card in the store.

Next, she wanted to get a balloon for him, a yellow balloon. She poured over the balloon selection. The only yellow options were a Barbie balloon and a SpongeBob balloon. There was no competition. SpongeBob was the only way to go:

Finally, she had to get him some candy. On our way to the candy aisle, she was (thankfully) distracted by Odwalla bars. This is where she really took her time. She studied each label carefully and after MUCH consideration, gently selected three bars:

After shopping, she had to call her dad:

"Dad, are you coming home?"
"Yeah, I'll be there..."
"WE GOT YOU A PRESENT!"
"Oh, what is it?"
"I can't tell you. It's a surprise."
"Oh..."
"IT'S A BALLOON!"

So, as you can imagine, it was an exciting morning around here. Hopefully, the rest of the day will be as joyous for us all - especially the birthday boy.

Happy birthday, Mike!

Hankies picked the pink Barbie flowered cake decoration for his Daddy's birthday cake. They would have gone nicely with the card.

Happy Birthday Mike!
