Skunked!
So the other night, I let Sancho out into the backyard after dinner. I left the back door open so he could come back inside when he was ready. Mistake. Big mistake!
Less than two minutes later, a mass of coughing, wheezing black fur sped through the house. The coughing, wheezing black fur was carrying the pungent stench of skunk. Yup. It was Sancho. He took a direct hit from a skunk. In the face. Oh, why do I love this dog!?!
This was an extra chore I didn't want to deal with, but I had no choice. So, we got him into the bathtub immediately (it was too cold and dark to wash him off outside). Then we used this skunk odor removal recipe (the tomato juice solution is a myth):
* 1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
* 1/4 cup baking soda
* 1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
* Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
* Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
* For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.
Surprisingly, it worked fairly well on him. He only smells like a distant relative of Pepé Le Pew now as opposed to his direct spawn like before.
As for the house, we've had the doors and windows open most of the week. I think the smell is mostly gone, and I don't think we smell too bad. Although, visitors have been scarce. Very scarce. Except for some funny little black cat following me around mumbling something about l'amour.

Eh eh! That made me laugh out loud in the office... Bad girl and bad dog!
My furry one likes to roll over rotting animal bodies of unknown origin every now and then. Yummy.
Still haven't found a working recipe for that :
We use the liquid dish soap. I never tried peroxide.
It's a good thing your house is slated for demolition.
