Just Chillin

Ah, the weekend. Finally! We spent a good portion of yesterday house hunting. Out of all the houses that we saw, the only one that was within our price range was a two story, four bedroom, two bath house that sits on a third of an acre. Sounds great, right? We thought so too. We drove out to take a look wondering what must be wrong with the place. Usually, houses in our price range are tiny. The problem - it was severely damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. There were some pretty sketchy repairs made to it's foundation. Like, they just stuck a pipe under the house and pumped concrete under it until they got bored. Also, some large concrete pillars were put in place to act as retaining walls behind the house. For some reason, windows on the bottom floor had panes of glass that were about a third too small. There were large open gaps. The decks were crumbling. Basically, the house was barely inhabitable and would need to be totally gutted, and it was not cheap. For $350K less (LESS! - that's not a typo) than the cost of this house, our friends just bought a brand new, custom built, seven bedroom, three bath house on almost an acre in Utah. Unbelievable! This real estate bubble must pop and pop soon.

Today, we're going hiking. It's too depressing to look at what we can afford in California.

"Maybe, we could just live in here. It's close to the ice cream."

Just come back to Acton - maybe the buyers wouldn't even notice since they still haven't moved in. I think the cat has moved into the house in their place.

Gama - I also love house hunting. Having a glimpse into other people's lives is always intersting to me.

S&K - We'd love to come back to Acton, especially now that it must look like a rain forest!

Goss's - Alabama is probably great, but you just don't have enough mountains. So, come out and live near us. We could get a compound together.

Scott - We could have our own city block? I don't want to know things like this! It dives me crazy. We are living in an overpriced nightmare.

Let's see, we could all move to Texas and live on an enormous ranch. I believe Fife was requesting near a river.

We could sell from our 'overpriced nightmare' and meet in the middle!

Miss and love you guys

Great post J Fife, without blogs like yours I would be miserable and bored. My recent injury has me cooped up at home, so it's always lucky to find a gem like your blog here to keep me amused. My top dog houses website is getting better but it's hard to find information on top dog houses stuff, so I like learning from quality blogs like yours because it helps me in my web projects. You do a sweat job my friend. I'll be bookmarking your site in a special place. Will probably tell a friend too.

Nice work ~

J Fife, what are we going to do...? I'm not sure about you but it's getting harder and harder to enjoy my blog because of all the spam it's getting attacked with. You may be having a similar problem... I enjoy my normal site about large dog houses because it doesn't get cluttered with shallow comments, but when I'm visiting other blogs and places on the web looking for large dog houses stuff it seems to be everywhere.

Well I'm not sure if you have any good tips, but good luck with your website goals. I wish you the best.

J Fife, I need a little inspiration... I've read your post 'Just Chillin', I enjoyed it so I decided to comment. I've been thinking about my blog and how there are all these people posting strange comments there. Maybe you understand, I'm not sure, but it's tiring to read the numbers of comments that don't have much to do with my stuff. My normal wood dog houses website never suffers this because it just sells wood dog houses and isn't a blog. Do you have any ideas for how to stop the cluttering of non-relevant comments? Thanks for your great blog. Tips are always welcome...

good day -

Hey J Fife...
How did you get your blog to be so good? Originally I was out trying to locate small dog houses related information, but your post ' Just Chillin ' got my attention and stopped me in my tracks :) Glad I found you because I'm trying to improve my site about small dog houses and your blog here gave me some excellent ideas. Thanks J Fife for the good read and I think I'll mention your blog to my cousin (if that's okay...)

Keep up your effort ~ and good job.
