It's Not Easy Being Green
The citrus maxima, aka Kermit, is no more. (Yes. I named him. Trust me. When something this big moves into your house, it becomes a member of your family.) He had to be taken care of. He was just taking up too much of our precious counter space. So, this is what he looked like on his way to the executioner's block:
I swear this is not the same image from last week.
Mike suggested I take him back to the farmer's market and try to get my buck back. I couldn't do it. It would be like taking Sancho back to the dog pound and trying to get our three dollars back. It just wouldn't work. These are one way transactions.
You might want to take the kids away from the computer now. This is what he looked like when I got done with him:
Despite the green exterior, he was in fact delicious! He tasted like a mild grapefruit.
Now that he's gone, the house feels unusually quiet. We'll miss you Kermie...
It's not that easy bein' green;
Having to spend each day the color of the leaves.
When I think it could be nicer being red, or
yellow or gold -
or something much more colorful like that.
It's not easy bein' green.
It seems you blend in with so many other
ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over 'cause you're
not standing out like flashy sparkles in the water-
or stars in the sky.
But greens the color of Spring.
And green can be cool and friendly-like.
And green can be big like an ocean, or important
like a mountain, or tall like a tree.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but why wonder why?
Wonder, I am green and it'll do fine,
it's beautiful!
And I think it's what I want to be.
(Lyrics: Joe Raposo)
(sung by Kermit the frog and sometimes even Kermit the fruit)
