Balloons Over Bend
So this weekend we woke up ridiculously early. And did you know that the sun is all bright and shining at 5:30 am? I didn't know that. I didn't want to know that.
Anyway, we were up making discoveries about the sun's early morning habits so that we could watch the launching of hot air balloons for the Balloons Over Bend festival.
What a treat! We got to see balloons on the ground in Bend:

Lovely, lovely morning. Next time, I'm only hoping for nighttime launches. I'm more interested in the antics of the moon. They don't call it la luna loca for nothing.

I remember going to a similar deal when I lived in NM. At a similar ungodly hour. I'm not sure why it all has to start so early?? Can't they take off at any time of the day?
I believe they take off at sunrise due to some wind-related reason. It may be very calm, then.
But - I wouldn't know. It would take a lot more than a set of balloons to get me up that early.
