Natividad (Tillie) Cordova 1918-2005

My Aunt Tillie passed away last week. She was the oldest of my dad's six sisters, and the one who most closely resembled my grandmother in every way.

I'll always remember her voice, eating natillas in her camping trailer on a rainy day, and how she introduced me to the joys of cheddar cheese on hot apple pie. Rest in peace, tia Tive.

Sounds like an amazing lady! So sorry for your family's loss. But isn't God good to give us happy memories! I don't know what natillas are, but i'm guessing they are good! And cheddar cheese on apple pie? Please explain. I must try if this is good, except that Dr. Perricone will not be pleased with my choice.

Also, this is the first picture I've seen of you as a child. In my book, you can now officially take some or ALL the credit for Sarah's precious looks. She looks just like you! When all this time I thought she looked like Mike. I had no idea. (there's only one more thing - your pic here looks a little like mike's twin sister) :)

Your posting is amazing! I almost
forgot what you looked like as a
child. That is a great picture of
you and Tia Tive. I now see a great resemblance to you and Sarah. I thank Tia Tive for the Twinkle in her eyes, the charm in her smile, and the warmth
in her heart. I have so many memories of her and they are all
good ones. Eat the Natias and have
cheddar on your pie. It can get you to at least 87. May I also suggest Salisbury Steak, Calabacitas and red chile (al estylo Nuevo Mexico)or green chili. Rest in Peace Tillie..
Dad, the youngest of many siblings,
I pray for peace in your heart. You are so strong, but I know deep inside your must be feeling the loss of your sister. You have lost two this year and that I imagine is unbearable. Love You Dad. REJ

Becca - You're right. Happy memories are a truly priceless gift.

Natillas are a creamy custard that's eaten cold. My aunt used to add vanilla wafers to the custard which resulted in something like a banana pudding minus the bananas. Yummy!

I know the cheese on the pie sounds really weird, but it's delicious (or maybe Carrie and I are just odd). You just put a piece of cheese on top of a slice of hot apple pie. The cheese softens and you get a really tasty treat.

Maybe you're right about Sarah. I just see a lot of Mike in her - could be the hair.

Jodie - Thanks for taking the time to leave a note. It's nice to know who's out there reading my silly blog. I've sent you an email.

REJ - Yes. The twinkle in tia Tive's eye was wonderful. I'm craving food from home so badly now. I have to get out to Golondrinas soon. I need a green chile fix!

Carrie - Thanks. I knew I could count on you to back me up with the cheese/pie combo. Stilton? Mmmm... I'm going to have to try that. See my response to Becca about the natillas. They are delicious. I am so hungry now. No more talk of food!
