Teach Him I Will
Sarah got to visit the doctor on Monday for her nine month check-up. The appointment had been delayed a couple of weeks, because her super doctor (I'm talking top of her medical class at Stanford) had to go out on early maternity leave. In her place, we got a very young, soft-spoken pediatrician. Sarah recognized he was a bit green and decided it was her duty to expose him to a real life stranger anxiety tantrum. He might have read about this phenomenon in a text book, but I don't think he was prepared for the "in your face" Jedi Master experience. Using the Force, Sarah would not let him touch her, look at her, or even stand in a corner across the room from her (seriously, at one point, he stood in the corner at the other side of the room and asked us questions from a safer distance). He was very gentle, patient, and thorough - well, as thorough as one can be when an infant is screaming at full volume into your stethoscope. When the examination was complete, he breathed a sigh of relief and slipped quickly out the door. Sarah, seeing him go, immediately stopped the wailing and took on a deep Yoda-like expression, as if pleased with her teachings. "Go young Padawan..."
Here she is enjoying an apple - you know, an apple for the teacher.
