Marin Headlands

In anticipation of a sunny day, we decided to make a trip out to the Marin Headlands. This area once housed coastal defense batteries to protect the San Francisco Bay. Now, it's part of the Golden Gate National Park. On a clear day, it's supposed to offer magnificent views of the bay, the city, and the amazing coastline. It turns out that the fog did not cooperate, and the sunny day did not fully materialize. We still got some incredible views and a nice hike.

We stuffed Sarah and some snacks (a baguette, dehydrated peaches and quark cheese) into a backpack and took the Coastal Trail from Fort Cronkite.

We hauled our mighty load uphill and explored Battery Townsley:

Mike couldn't take the weight anymore, so he passed Sarah on to me. She really liked riding on my back, because she got to play "Yank Mamma's Hair".

After a few hours of hiking, we (we being those who had to carry a very pudgy baby on our backs) were beat. So, we drove out to Point Bonita Lighthouse - one of the oldest lighthouses in the U.S.

Here are Mike and Sarah making the dangerous walk to see what all of the fuss is about.

Here are Sarah and me enjoying the danger of standing so close to the edge of a cliff.

After this, we headed home. Mike and I were wiped out. Sarah wanted to know what was on the agenda next - maybe we're too old to have kids after all.
