Month 4

Dear Sarah,

Somehow, we have managed to keep you happy and in tact (mostly) for four whole months now. No one is more surprised by this than your dad and me.

It's unbelievable how much you have advanced in the past month. I can barely keep track of all the changes.

You can now lie on your belly and lift your head for long periods of time without screaming for that long period of time. We're convinced that you'll roll over any day now. You've already had a couple of accidental roll overs, but nothing that we can definitively say was a true roll.

You've added laughing out loud to your smiling. Unfortunately, you ration the really loud belly laughs for truly comedic moments. So, I spend my days trying to figure out what you deem hysterical. To an outside observer, I'm sure I look like a real lunatic. I don't care. I'm willing to do just about anything to hear that laugh.

Some things have not changed. You're still happiest on your changing pad (that was the best $4.99 we ever spent). The difference is that now you hang out on your changing pad with your feet in your hands. In the past couple of weeks, you discovered how to reach and grab your feet! You love it. It's really cute, but it does add an extra challenge to getting your diaper on.

The Gymini playmat is also still a favorite spot. You started the month out by learning how to grab and pull the hanging toys (you especially love to grab the domed mirror and the tags on the toys) . Now, you have moved on to kicking the toys. You really like to kick the little bear. I'm hoping this is an indication of unstoppable kick ball skills and not a hatred of wildlife.

On the music front, dancing is still tops in your book. I owe the Cowboy Junkies a world of gratitude - not only do they give me beautiful lyrics to slaughter, but their music can calm you in minutes. As far as I can tell, you have still not objected to my singing. Itsy Bitsy Spider is the hit of the month. I don't know what you have against the spider, but you especially love when he gets washed out of the drain.

Sweet baby, I could go on and on - you are my favorite subject. I just wanted you to know that you are growing and changing so fast. Every day is even better than the day before. I can't even imagine what the next month will bring. I can hardly wait!

Love,
your mama

PS
Thank you for hanging out in your crib happily chattering to yourself in the mornings. Those extra minutes of sleep that you give me are priceless. Someday, perhaps when you're a (shudder) teenager, I'll return the favor.

Mom, you are so not funny.
